Create a New Server

So hopefully you now have a DigitalOcean account set-up and have connected the built-in ‘DigitalOcean Module’ to your account by pasting and saving a valid API Token.

If you now click on the ‘WP Cloud Server’ menu you will see the ‘All Modules’ page with a row of tabs. We will that the plugin is in it’s default set-up with all of built-in Modules active.

Clicking on the tab labelled ‘DigitalOcean’ will give you the page shown in the screenshot below. If you have any servers already set-up then they will be displayed in the table, if not it will be empty.

At the top of the page will be a sub-menu, click on the option labelled ‘Connect Server’, which will take you to a new page where you can select the configuration of your new Server, as shown below.

Ok. Let’s work our way down the page and take a closer look at each of the options.

  1. Server Name
This is just a label for the new server and must only use a mixture of the following characters,  a-z, 0-9, -, or a period (.).
  2. Server Image
This is the operating system, the version of Linux, that your new Cloud Server will be deployed with. This is a drop-down list, so click on it and then click on the image you want.
  3. Server Region
This is another drop-down list which allows you to select the location for your new Server.
  4. Server Size
This is where you select the type of Cloud Server that you want. This will include the number of CPUs, the disk size, and the memory. Once again click the drop-down list to locate your desired configuration.

Finally, once you are happy with your selection click ‘Create Server’. It will take a few seconds but eventually you will see a message saying your new server is being created.

In the background the ‘DigitalOcean Module’ has instructed DigitalOcean, via the official API, to create the specified Server. If you logged into your DigitalOcean account you will see it being built.

The beauty of the ‘WP Cloud Server’ plugin is that you don’t need to. After a few seconds clicking on the ‘Servers’ sub-menu option will display a list of your Servers, which will include your new server.
